A loan of $1,100 helped a member to pay school fees for his children.

David M.'s Group's story

These are teachers of a primary school, located Kenema City, in Eastern Sierra Leone. The school serves 219 pupils and employs eight teachers. In operation since 1985, the school receives support from the government to help cover its operating costs.

However, for many of the teachers here, life can be a struggle. Many teachers therefore engage in side-projects and small businesses in order to supplement (or in some cases replace) their salaries. This group of teachers has thus applied for a loan of 4,700,000 Sierra Leonean Leones from SMT/Kiva lenders.

David is the leader of this group of teachers. He is 47 years old and has been in the teaching profession for 14 years now. He is married, and together they have four children – one in primary school and three in secondary schools. David plans to use his portion of the loan to pay school fees for his children.
