A loan of $1,275 helped a member to pay school fees and other school charges for her children.

Mary J.'s Group's story

These are teachers of a primary school located in Kenema, a city in Eastern Sierra Leone. The school serves above 1,000 pupils and employs sixty teachers. In operation for fifty-nine years, the school receives support from the government to help cover its operating costs.

However, for many of the teachers here, life can be a struggle. Many teachers therefore engage in side projects and small businesses in order to supplement (or in some cases replace) their salaries, and these teachers are collectively seeking a loan of 5 million 4 hundred thousand SLL from SMT and Kiva lenders.

Mary is the leader of this group of teachers. She is forty-seven-years old. Mary is married and together they have two children. Mary plans to use her portion of the funds to pay school fees and other school charges for her children.
