Cuenca, Ecuador / Grocery Store

A loan of $1,000 helped to purchase basic necessities for her store.

Lourdes Beatriz's story

Lourdes is a member of the community bank Zhidmad. She lives by the community Zhidmad en Cuenca, a place that is surrounded by lush natural vegetation. It is a place where one can breathe the peace and tranquility that is located outside the noise of the city. Its people raise animals, agriculture, and many labor in the city for a living. They maintain the culture and traditions of its people. Lourdes is 21 years old, unmarried, and lives with her mother who is in agriculture and the raising of animals for a living. The house in which she lives is the property of her mother. For a living she does housework, raises guinea pigs, sheep, cattle and chickens. She also attends to a small store which she had started two months ago. She works from Monday to Saturday with a fixed schedule. This is her 4th loan she had received from the community bank and she is going to invest it in the purchase of basic necessities for her store. Her goal is to own her own house.
