Cuenca, Ecuador / Animal Sales

A loan of $675 helped to purchase chickens.

Luz Margarita's story

Luz is a member of the communal bank Zhidmad. She lives in the community of Zhidmad in Cuenca, a place which is surrounded by exuberant natural vegetation. It is a place where one breathes peace and tranquility, since it is located outside of the noise of the city. The people there raise animals, work in agriculture, or many work in the city. They maintain the culture and traditions of their towns.

Luz is 39 years old, married, and in her marriage has conceived 4 children who are now 16, 14, 12 and 10 years old. Her first two children work and help her financially. Her third child stays at home and helps with the household chores, and the last is studying in a local school. Her husband works in construction as a mason. The house in which she lives is her own.

Luz takes care of the household chores and, since she spends most of her time at home, raises cattle, pigs, chickens and guinea pigs, which she sells when she has the financial need. She also works in agriculture, and what she grows is only for their own consumption.

She has been a member of the bank for 10 years, and she will invest the new loan in purchasing chickens.

Her goal is to have a business like a store.
