Las Positivas Group's story

The Las Positivas community bank has 8 members--men and women--and has been associated with Programa-Prosperidad for 2 years. Mercedes, 37, is separated and has 3 children, the youngest of whom is still in her care. Mercedes operates a corner grocery where she sells the kinds of products that her customers need every day. She also makes prepared foods--wings, salchipapas and hamburgers--that she sells in the evenings. The businesses are her means of making a living and providing for her child. Mercedes wants to continue growing the business so that she can go on supporting her son. She will use this loan to buy merchandise--soft drinks, water, snacks, rice, sugar, milk, etc.--that she will resell.
