A loan of $1,200 helped to buy supplies, cacao plants, fertilizer, compost, and liquid weed-killer.

Jose Vicente's story

Vicente is sixty-five, married, and has four children. He lives in Chillanes, Bolívar Province with his wife and children, aged eighteen, sixteen, fourteen, and ten. The Tendal communal bank has eleven members, both men and women, and is located forty-five minutes from the cooperative. Vicente is in agriculture: he grows coffee, cacao, bananas, green plantains, and oranges. He buys and sells in San José del Tambo every month. He's seeking a loan to buy supplies, cacao plants, fertilizers, compost, and liquid weed-killer. The loan will allow him to increase production and make more income for the family. Vicente's dream is to grow more crops and increase production so he can have a better lifestyle. The challenge he faces is the poor condition of the roads. In his free time Vicente likes to sleep. He is respectful, responsible, and likes the Carnival festivities.
