A loan of $1,125 helped to hire workers.

Marlith's story

Marlith, 32, is an enterprising, charismatic woman who is married to Hipólito. She is a farmer and lives with her husband and two children, ages 16 and 6, in their own house which they built together. Marlith's work consists of selling plantain and fruit, both wholesale and retail. She has 14 hectares of land where she grows the plantain. She sells the produce at the market in the city. She has been in this activity for four years and now with her experience is one of the largest merchants.

What she enjoys about her work is that she is able to obtain an income that gives her the tranquility of knowing that she can provide her children with a better lifestyle. She is comfortable in this business because she knows it well. She learned the trade from her mother when she was very young. She is determined to continue expanding.

This is her fourth loan through MFP and she is grateful for the financial support and committed to paying back the loan on time. She also likes her communal bank because she knows all the members and considers them to be responsible and supportive. The 3,000 PEN loan will be used for land maintenance and plantain production, for which she must hire workers.
