A loan of $300 helped to buy fungicides and insecticides.

Johnny De Las Piedades's story

Johnny is a man of 35, and lives with his family in Concepción de Pilas, Puntarenas, a community in the southern area of Costa Rica. The local economy is based on agriculture, particularly the growing of tubers, coffee, corn, beans, as well as livestock-raising.

Johnny is applying for a loan of 150,000 colones, in order to maintain his plantings by means of organic fertilizer, fungicides, and insecticides. This will protect his bean crops, as it is a reliable and sustainable alternative.

With these fertilizers, Johnny will increase the soil's capacity to absorb the various nutritional elements, and with the fungicides that he will use thanks to this loan, he wll also avoid fungi appearing in his plantings. This way, when ingesting them, his customers don't run the risk of acquiring some illness.

In this way he will provide quality products to his customers, and reach the sales goal that he has set himself for each month.

Besides, he will be able to cope with all his obligations and payments and help his numerous family get ahead in life. Johnny is a member of the Empresa Comunal Denia Danta S.A, one of the 150 communal banks in Costa Rica.
