A loan of $1,250 helped a member to buy a greater variety of cosmetics.

Azurita Group's story

The Azurita (Azurite) communal bank is comprised of seven women who live in the Garcia municipality west of the city of Monterrey. They chose this name because in addition to being a precious stone, it is considered to be lucky. Most of the woman in this group are merchants and sell different products like clothes, bed linens, and beauty products. Concepción Alejandra is one of the women in this group. Concepción is 22 years old. She is married and has two children, ages one and five. She loves them with all of her soul, and she struggles day to day to get them ahead. Concepción gets up every morning in order to go sell her products door to door. She sells different cosmetics, make-up, and products to take care of the skin. With this loan Concepción hopes to be able to offer her customers a greater variety of products. This way she will be able to help her husband with the household expenses and her son’s educational expenses.
