Carmen Rosa's story

Carmen Rosa was born in the city of Huayllabamba, and this is where she still lives. The Peruvian district of Huayllabamba is one of the seven districts of Urubamba province, located in the department of Cusco in the Cusco region of Peru. Carmen Rosa is 56 years old and married. She has been married to her husband for a number of years, and they have a beautiful relationship that has produced two children. Carmen Rosa has three main economic activities that she carries out during the year, these are: farming, the sale of chicha de jora (a traditional Peruvian beverage made from corn), and raising small animals. During the months of April through October she plants and cultivates corn, squash, carrots, tomatoes and other vegetables, but during the months of October through March she has a business selling choclo (a Peruvian variety of corn with large kernels). She takes her corn to sell in the cities of Juliaca and Arequipa where she distributes it in the different wholesale markets in those cities. At this time, Carmen Rosa needs a loan to buy corn. Carmen Rosa's dream is to buy a car to use in transporting her products, since now she has to rent a van to take her products to the market. Carmen Rosa is a member of the communal bank “Virgen Natividad," which has 15 members who live in the city of Huayllabamaba, and others who live in the city of Yucay.
