A loan of $1,100 helped to buy hair coloring, make-up, scissors, brushes, and creams, etc.

María Monserrate's story

The “Renacer” (Reborn) communal bank meets every two weeks in the residential community of El Florón in the city of Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí. It has been known as the City of the Royal Tamarinds for many years.

This is where 19 year old María lives. She is single and lives in her parents’ house. She is studying cosmetology in a university in Portoviejo. In addition to being a very good student in order to obtain her own resources and help with her educational expenses, she does beauty and personal grooming jobs to take advantage of what she is studying. She does a diversity of jobs like hair coloring, make-up, and manicures, etc.

She works every day when her customers require her services. She also does jobs in her house and at the customer’s house. She has been doing this business activity for four years. It is going very well for her even though she does not have an established place and the equipment that she needs.

She will use this loan to buy hair coloring, make-up, scissors, brushes, and creams, etc. These items are useful in her work. This is her third cycle in the communal bank. She likes it for the ease of getting the loans.

Her dreams are to one day have a Spa and to finish her studies soon.
