A loan of $750 helped to buy sugar cane.

Sorayda Elizabeth's story

Sorayda is a 29-year-old woman; she’s a single mother of an 11-year-old son who she has raised alone. They live together in Latacunga which is a city located in central Ecuador and is a meeting point between the coast, the Andes and Amazonia. It has a temperate climate which is sometimes windy and cold. From there one can reach the entire province which offers visitors the beauty of its lagoons, pure air and beautiful vegetation.

Even though Sorayda is a graduate in “beauty” she does not practice her profession but rather has a stand where she sells sugar cane and sugar cane juice; sugar cane is a stalk that sugar is made from and in Ecuador it’s consumed in its natural state and its juice is very much enjoyed for its flavor. She learned this occupation from her mother and works 8 hours a day near a bus terminal.

She wants to invest buying an entire lot of sugar cane to get a better price and as a result better profits. She’s concerned for her son’s future so she works hard every day so that he’ll never lack anything.
