A loan of $650 helped to buy more sugar and soap for resale.

Irene's story

Irene is 41 years old and lives in the town of Pallisa in the Iganga region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children; 2 of them are currently in school. For the past 3 years, Irene has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells sugar and soap.

To help expand her business, Irene has requested a loan of 1,500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more sugar and soap for resale, and will help Irene to generate greater profits and expand her business. Irene hopes that in the future she will be able to own a bigger shop.

Irene is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Irene who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
