Angel Miguel

San Miguel, Ecuador / Agriculture

A loan of $1,200 helped for agricultural purposes – to purchase seeds, fertilizers, urea [a nitrogen-rich additive], and liquid herbicides.

Angel Miguel's story

Ángel Miguel is 53 years old, married with five children, and lives with his wife and children in San Miguel in the Province of Bolívar. His children are twenty-nine, twenty-three, twenty-one, nineteen, and thirteen years old.

The VRC [Ventanillas Rurales Crédito, or Window to the Countryside Loan] is called Yagui Chico, after the community which is twenty minutes from the Canton of San Miguel, and whose members work in agriculture to provide their families with a source of income.

Ángel works as a farmer to provide for his family. He grows mostly corn and wheat.

His purchases and sales occur mostly in San Miguel, while he raises the corn in his community.

He is requesting the loan for agricultural purposes – to purchase seeds, fertilizers, urea [a nitrogen-rich additive], and liquid herbicides.

With the help of the loan, he has been able to purchase the seeds and fertilizers necessary to be able to plant his crops. His dream is to be able to purchase land, and that his children complete their studies and have professions. The frost and strong winds that damage his corn crops are the challenges he faces. In his free time he likes to take walks with his family during the Christmas festivities.
