A loan of $1,900 helped to purchase different types of soft drinks to resell and to make some improvements to the store.

Jalal's story

Jalal is a 26-year-old man. Two years ago, he opened a store to sell soft drinks. This is his only source of income. Jalal wants to improve his store by painting and installing lights. He also wants to purchase a large quantity of different types of soft drinks to sell, so he will have a better assortment to sell and increase his income.

Jalal needs to take out a loan from FATEN to cover the costs. When Jalal gets this loan, he will be able to make the necessary repairs to his store and purchase a collection of soft drinks to sell so his customers will have many choices when purchasing soft drinks. This will increase his sales and income so he can improve his living conditions.

About this loan product:
FATEN offers loan products that are designed to serve borrowers all over Palestine, including some religiously conservative areas. A key tenet of Islam is the prohibition of interest in the lending or accepting of money. This prohibition is based on the belief that money should be seen only as a medium of exchange and that it has no value in itself. FATEN has adapted the terms of this loan to fit the cultural context by attaching a 0% interest rate to the loan. In order to cover its costs, FATEN does charge a servicing fee. The amount you see fundraising includes both the principal loan and the loan servicing fees. As with all Kiva loans, you should expect to have your funds returned to you in accordance with the repayment schedule attached to this loan.
