A loan of $1,625 helped a member purchase starch, lard, eggs, seasoning, and other ingredients to make chipa.

Paz Y Unidad Group's story

The committee “Paz y Unidad,” or “Peace and Unity,” began through promotions that took place in the members’ neighborhood. They are all neighbors and friends in the neighborhood. They made it their goal to work, fomenting a spirit of solidarity among each member, and carry their program out to its fullest potential. Margarita is the president of the group. She sells “chipa,” (a Paraguayan traditional food) [a cheese bread often made with corn or manioc flour]. She says that she is driven to make progress and to work to help her family, since they are her reason for fighting. One of her wishes is to continue growing to earn a little more income. She is requesting the loan to purchase starch, lard, eggs, seasoning, and other ingredients necessary to make the chispa that she sells.
