El Copanco (Flat) Group
In this Group: Jesus , Aurora, Helena, Margarita, Blanca Lidia
This group is called “El Copanco.” It is made up of five women, each of whom makes a living from a different economic activity.

The woman who sat for the interview on behalf of the group is named Jesús. She asked for a loan so that she can purchase ingredients for making bread. She needs to buy ingredients such as flour, eggs, oil, cheese, Royal brand baking powder, etc. She has officially been in business for four months, and says that it is going well, since it has greatly improved her household income.

Jesús’s reason for going into business was her family, since she needed to continue supporting them with her income—especially her granddaughters, who live with her.

Jesús hopes that her small business and the loan will help her to continue working as long as God gives her life.

The other members of the group are: Aurora, who plans to use her share of the loan to purchase chickens to sell for butchering; Helena, who plans to purchase cheese to sell; Margarita, who will purchase fruits and vegetables to sell; and finally, Blanca Lidia, who also plans to purchase fruits and vegetables to sell.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
