A loan of $1,200 helped to buy chickens for her poultry business and supplies for her bakery business.

Yngrid's story

Yngrid, 29, was born in the city of Calca and lives there still. She is partnered, but has no children. She is an administrator at one of the most luxurious hotels in Cusco and her responsibilities range from tending bar to cleaning. She has worked at the hotel for many years and likes the work. The pay, though, is too little to cover her expenses and, consequently, she decided to start her own business. Two businesses, in fact. She splits the time she's not working at the hotel between one business making and selling bread and a second business raising chickens. She will use this loan to buy more chickens for her poultry business and flour and other supplies for her bakery business.

Yngrid is a member of the Virgen de Asunta de Calca community bank. The bank has 15 members, all of whom live in Calca, a city in the Peruvian "departamento" of Cusco.
