A loan of $975 helped to buy sewing supplies such as fabric, thread, and zippers.

Irene's story

Irene is a member of the “Futuros Emprendedores” communal bank, located in the municipality of Peñalolén. She cuts and sews clothing, and works as a seamstress. She has been working in this sector for ten years.

She equipped a small workshop inside her home, where she has five sewing machines, including industrial, straight stitch, and embroidering machines. This variety of machines has enabled her to provide her services to various schools and private customers.

The also mentions that during this Christmas season, she has a stand in a Christmas market where she sells towels, and other Christmas items. She says that she buys her merchandise in the Independencia municipality, as in this area where she finds fabric and other supplies at lower prices.

She keeps her hours of work flexible, however she must be available to work every day from Monday to Sunday.

She will use the loan to buy sewing supplies, including fabric, thread, and zippers, as she must get herself organized for making school clothing for the back-to-school season, which is during the month of March.

Her goals are to expand her business, and to purchase a cover stitch machine, used for finishing cuffs and necks of T-shirts, and sweatshirts.

Irene lives with her husband, and says that one of her dreams is to go on vacation in the south of the country, as she wants to take a break.

She is very happy and thankful for the opportunity that Fondo Esperanza has given her to invest in her business, which means a lot to Irene. In addition, the training provided at the meetings has been very useful, as she has learned to invest, and improve her earnings. As well, she feels very comfortable with the communal bank she belongs to, as they do activities together, and it is a supportive and responsible group.

Peñalolén is located to the east of the Santiago Metropolitan Region, It has various attractions, such as vineyards, heritage buildings, and natural areas for excursions. These are the elements that are transforming this municipality into a new tourist destination within the Metropolitan Region.
