Luis's story

Luis is 30 years old. He lives with Orfelia, with whom he has a 2 year-old daughter, María Esther. They all live in their own house in the town of Santa Rosa de Palomar, in the district of San Luis de Shuaro, in the provinceof Chanchamayo (in the central jungle). Luis is an exemplary father. He works in agriculture on 2 parcels of land that he has planted in coffee and plantains. He obtains sufficient money from these products to give his family a decent life that covers the basic necessities. He is now planning to plant coffe seedlings on half of a parcel. Work in the countryside is hard and constant and his training is fruitful. This is how Luis learned to differentiate the diseases that threaten his coffee plants. For example, the “cricket eye,” which looks like a burn on the leaves of the coffee, making small dark spots, and “spider-ing,” which affects the leaves and dries out the coffee berries. These are Luis’ enemies, which he has successfully fought during his years as a farmer. In his free time he works as a laborer on lands for his neighbors. So, he is never short of money. His greatest desire is to increase his production of coffee, which he is beginning to make reality with the planting of his coffee seedling nursery. Eventually he will increase his amount of land. This will be the 5th loan he will obtain from Microfinanzas Prisma. He pledges to be punctual in the payment of his monthly repayments. He feels happy and satisfied with his communal bank, “Aroma de Café.” With the money he will buy 7 bags of organic compost and he will also pay workers to weed and care for his coffee plants.
