A loan of $550 helped to buy fabric, spools, and other sewing supplies.

Hilda's story

Hilda is 62 years old. After retiring with pension, she opened a tailoring business in 2003. Hilda learned to sew when she was 16, and later worked as a textiles worker in a major men's clothing factory.

She makes a variety of clothing in her workshop, including industrial uniforms and seasonal clothing like Carnaval costumes. Her customers are industrial workers, businesses, and neighbors.

Hilda is currently applying for a loan from Kiva. It will be her first loan from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. She will use it to buy fabric, spools, and sewing supplies that she will need to fulfill customer orders for matching women's blouses and slacks, multipurpose uniforms, and Christmas-themed bed linens. She hopes this investment will be profitable and expand her working capital.
