A loan of $600 helped a member to buy palm oil, margi, salt, pepper, rice, and other items in bulk.

Dim-Dim Group's story

Pictured here are members of the “Dim-Dim” group from Lunsar, a town in northern Sierra Leone. They are small businesswomen who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to seek a loan of 500,000 SLL for each member in the group. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their businesses, attract more customers, make more sales and profits, and consequently improve their living conditions.

The leader of this group of entrepreneurs is Kadiatu. Kadiatu was born in Lunsar about thirty-six years ago. She is married to a teacher and the couple has two children who are attending primary school. Kadiatu has been a businesswoman for five years now. She sells food at the market. She has requested this loan in order to buy palm oil, margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), salt, pepper, rice, and other items in bulk to add to her business.

In this group: Kadiatu, Ramatu, Abibatu, Adamsay, Fatmata
