Gloria Maribel's story

The Comunal Proyecto 2003 communal bank meets every two weeks in the Jaramijo (Manta) canton. This is a place known for its beautiful beaches that bathe the coasts of this lovely place. Most of the population here are very hard-working and devoted to the sea-related businesses.

This is where we meet 36 year old Gloria. She is married and has three children; ages 16, 11, and the last is a four month old baby. The two oldest children go to elementary school and high school. Her husband is a driver.

She is a housewife who sells Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume, and women’s accessories) in order to get her own income. She sells at her place; she has some telephone booths. That is where she manages to make her sales. That is where she also sells ice cream, school supplies, and telephone cards and recharges. She works every day from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. She has had her place for four years, and she has been selling Avon for three years. She leaves these products on credit, and she collects every week.

This loan is to buy perfume, creams, cosmetics, ice cream, and telephone cards and recharges. She has been in her communal bank since it started. She likes it because the payments are easy to make.

Her dream is to continue growing in her business.

Gloria is in the photo with her two children.
