Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. A loan of $1,125 helped to hire day laborers.

Marina's story

Marina, 27, is a hardworking woman living in a rented house with her spouse, Daniel, 30, and their three beloved children who are the reason behind all her efforts. The products that Marina and Daniel grow with such good will and dedication have helped them much towards their lives’ progress.

Every morning she starts out working in her fields because she knows that on the care she provides her cocoa bean crops depends the quality of the products she’ll obtain. What she enjoys the most about her work is caring for the crops and she feels very happy when she sees them big and dense with leaves. She’s been in this line of work for seven years and considers the most difficult part having to transport her products from her fields to her location which is where she gets the best prices for her cocoa beans.

She will use the requested loan to hire day laborers to help with crop maintenance especially pruning and weeding. In the future, she hopes to plant more cocoa bean plants.

This will be MFP loan #4 and she commits to make her payments on the indicated dates because she wants to access future loans. She will use the requested 3000 new soles to hire day laborers to help her clear weeds and harvest her products.
