Sra. Cristina is married and has four children all of whom are married and independent. She lives in the Rodeo area and earns her living selling potatoes on market days in Cochabamba in a busy location where housewives do their shopping. Market days in Cochabamba are Wednesdays and Saturdays, and in Sacaba Fridays and Sundays.

Cristina is a hardworking, longtime client. She plans to use the loan to buy construction material to renovate her house since the rainy season is approaching. As well she wants to plant potatoes and vegetables in the small parcel of land behind her house. These are for her consumption only as she buys potatoes wholesale to sell. Her potato-selling business is her only source of income so she is very grateful to the institution for the support it provides.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
