A loan of $525 helped to buy soft drinks, beer, cookies, etc.

Rafael's story

Rafael is a kind man who is committed to his drink-selling business which is located in the town of Soledad. He lives in this town together with his wife and three children who are between 7 and 12 years old. Rafael's business idea was born when he lost his job in a factory. He invested his severance pay in buying drinks and this business has enabled him to provide for his family. In his words: 'life has treated [me] harshly' and so he also learned the building trade and he combines this with his business. It helps him to stay in the market and continually improve his family's well-being.

Rafael currently plans to make the most of the end-of-year season which is very good for selling drinks. For this reason, he is applying for a Kiva loan (his first loan from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo). He will use it to buy soft drinks, beers, cookies and other products. His future goal is to own his own home. His biggest challenge is the fact that he has little capital with which to stock his business.
