A loan of $1,100 helped to buy shoes, pants, shirts, blouses and children's clothing.

Leticia María's story

The 'La Amistad' (Friendship) community bank meets every two weeks in the beautiful city of Calceta which is known as 'Calceta la sin par' (Calceta, the city with no equal) owing to the beauty of its women and because, so far as its residents are concerned, there is no more beautiful city in the world.

Here we meet Leticia. She is 42 years old, married, and has four children aged 19, 17, 15 and 9. Her two eldest are in college, one is in high school and the youngest is in elementary school. Her husband is a doctor.

Leticia is a very good mother and housewife who sells shoes and all kinds of clothing. She makes her sales door to door and also sells from home. Her customers come to her house when they need to buy clothes. Leticia goes out three days a week and sometimes on Saturdays as well. She leaves her products on credit and collects payment in two or three installments. She buys her merchandise in Guayaquil whenever she needs it and also receives some from Spain where she has family members who send her all kinds of merchandise. She has been in this business for three years and it is doing very well.

Leticia will use this loan to buy shoes, pants, shirts, blouses and children's clothes. She has been a member of her community bank from the beginning and she likes it because the group is very united and responsible.

Leticia's dream is to buy a car which she can use to transport her products.
