A loan of $375 helped to do maintenance work on his mototaxi.

Arturo Andres's story

Arturo is a man of 24, and works providing public transport in the city of Ica. Ica is currently acknowledged to be one of the main cities in the country to invest in. This has been achieved thanks to the influx of new shopping centers from different parts of the country. In turn, these large companies have allowed many more people to have job opportunities.

In the same way, this has benefitted other business people besides the owners of these large shopping centers. This is the case with Arturo. Thanks to the increasing affluence of the public and their great need to get around, and thanks to his effort and dedication, he has been able to increase his income.

Arturo would have liked to be an engineer, if it weren't for his lack of income. He considers his work a great source of income because he knows he must work the greatest number of hours possible to earn a good income.

He drives a mototaxi for eight hours a day, serving approximately 40 customers. This allows him to earn an average of 70 soles a day; around 90 if it's a good day. In the city of Ica, the cost of transport in this vehicle amounts to an average of 1 or 1.5 soles per trip, depending on the distance he has to travel.

Arturo thinks that his business is successful because of the determination he puts into his work. With the help of the Kiva lenders, Arturo's effort will be worth a lot more. This is because he wants to do maintenance work on his mototaxi, so as not to have problems on any of the trips he makes.

His dream is to be able to have another business, and to build his own house.
