Esther S.'s Group's story

Pictured here are teachers from one of the leading vocational institutes in Magburaka, a town in Northern Sierra Leone. These teachers have applied for a loan of SLL 1,500,000 from SMT/Kiva lenders in order to solve their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, they repay the loan using their monthly salaries. Their institution's bursar is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayment to SMT/Kiva lenders on their behalf.

Esther on the right is the leader of this group of two. She is fifty-eight years of age. A native of Magburaka town, Esther is married and has five children – two in secondary school, two in primary and one in college. Esther has been a teacher for thirty-two years now.
