A loan helped to buy cases of beer to be well-stocked while awaiting the New Year.

Juan's story

Juan is 62 years old, and he lives in the city of Barranquilla with his wife. He has four children between the ages of 32 and 39. He came from the Magdalena department to the city of Barranquilla 27 years ago. He bought a house with his savings, and on that corner he started his own business selling fried food and fast food. From then on it started to go very well for him.

His business is called “Esquina Caliente” (Hot Corner). It has become more substantial because he has added refreshments and drinks. With that he has managed to support his household. It has become the “backbone of his income” as he maintains it by himself.

His goal for later on is to convert it into a strategic point where he sells not only food, but that it becomes a space for family unification and healthy diversion.

Juan is currently applying for a Kiva loan, his first loan with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. He will use the loan to buy cases of beer in order to be well-stocked while awaiting the New Year. He wants to be stocked with what his customers like for the end of the year festivities, drinks and refreshments.
