One Word Group's story

In the photo are members of the “One Word” group. They are small scale businesswomen based in Kamasikie, a village in Northern Sierra Leone. This is the first loan these entrepreneurs are accessing from Kiva lenders. With this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more profit and consequently improve on their standard of living.

The leader of this group is N'yama. N'yama is age thirty-three; she was born in Kamasikie village where she is currently residing together with her husband and her child. N'yama sells cooked rice and has been a businesswoman for ten years now. With the help of this loan, she is going to buy cooking materials: rice, palm-oil, onions, vegetables, etc. in a large quantity, to produce a large quantity of cooked rice and sauce for sale.
