A loan of $1,025 helped to purchase beauty soaps and fruit juice.

Aïssata's story

Aïssata is about 46 years old and a mother of six. She lives with only her husband and their children in Hamdallaye Extension, one of the neighborhoods at the outskirts of the city of Sikasso (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). Over 20 years ago, after running several businesses unsuccessfully, Aïssata launched this business buying and selling beauty soaps and other various items. She is a travelling vendor and her customer base consists of women in the city of Sikasso. Now she wants to take advantage of this current loan from Soro Yiriwaso to become a large-scale saleswoman with a stall in the market. She is on her second individual loan; the previous loan was fully paid back. With this second loan she plans on buying 10 boxes of beauty soaps and 6 boxes of fruit juice of many different varieties. She gets her supplies in Bamako. She plans to use this loan to generate a monthly profit of 150,000 CFA francs. These profits will allow her to pay off most of her own expenses, contribute to the family expenses, pay the interest on her loan and invest the remaining funds into her business.
