Benkadi Group's story

BENKADI is a group mainly consisting of married women with an average age of 39 and an average of four children. For the most part, they live in monogamist families in Bougoula, one of the popular neighborhoods of Sikasso. They are on their 14th loan with the Microfinance Institution Soro Yiriwaso to help meet the needs of their clients. Aminata, pictured first in the large boubou, sells potatoes. She has been doing this for about 14 years and has a very good reputation. With her loan, she plans to buy about ten 50kg sacks of potatoes. She buys from producers in the neighborhoods in Sikasso. She resells them, by order, at the market, and to family; she has both male and female customers. She plans to make an average monthly profit of 43,500 FCFA which will partly be used to pay for the loan and its interest and the other part for savings. She hopes to increase her business to better satisfy her customers.
