A loan of $1,100 helped to buy chains, bracelets, necklaces and cosmetics.

Nanci Judith's story

The communal bank María Monserrate meets twice a month in the city of Montecristi, known for its rich pre-colonial culture and for its handicrafts, that are recognized nationally and internationally. This is where the famous straw hats come from.

In this place lives Nanci. She is 57 years old. She is married and from this relationship she has 4 children. Two are older and independent and the two younger ones are still living with her and they are school students. Her husband is a driver. She has a degree in Education.

She works as a teacher in a neighborhood school, but she also is a merchant, selling the brand of Romanel jewelry and Yanbal (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and ladies accessories), working every day in all her activities. She sells her merchandise at the end of the week but she also sells them to her school colleagues, giving them credit and collecting payment every weekend. She has been in this business for more than 12 years and she buys her merchandise from a distributor in Manta.

This loan is just in order to buy Romanel jewelry such as chains, bracelets, and necklaces and cosmetics from Yanbal. She has been with the communal bank for 13 years and she is happy for the benefits that the institution has given her.

Her goals are to continue working and to expand her business.
