A loan of $300 helped to buy sheets, comforters and bedspreads.

Edelmira's story

Edelmira is a member of the 'Mujeres de la Colina II' community bank which is based in La Banda de Shilcayo district, in San Martín province, in San Martín department. She is 46 years old, married, and doesn't have any children in her care as they are all grown up and have formed their own households.

Edelmira decided to start her business in order to help her husband raise their children and have her own income. She started out selling groceries and candies in her home but she suffered an illness which needed treatment in the capital city and didn't have anybody to look after her business. This meant that her business declined. On her return, recovered from her illness, a friend invited her to join her community bank. Edelmira obtained her first loan for 300 soles which she put together with her savings and bought some sheets. She then increased her merchandise with comforters and bedspreads in order to keep her customers satisfied. Her customers are friends and shopkeepers in her town.

Edelmira is very happy because she is able to continue making her own income and, for this reason, she puts a lot of effort into her business. She will use this loan for 800 soles to buy sheets, comforters and bedspreads so that she can fill her customers orders. Her customers are happy with the quality of the products she offers.

Edelmira is a tenacious and hard-working woman. Her dream is to have well-located and equipped business premises where she can continue selling her merchandise (sheets, comforters, bedspreads, towels, etc.). She is very grateful to Movimiento Manuela Ramos for giving her the opportunity to get ahead in spite of life's adversities.
