Zoumana's story

At 40 years old Zoumana has two wives, is the the father of three children, and lives in a polygamous family in the town of Koutiala (in the Sikasso region).

Zoumana was not given the opportunity to pursue his education, which is why he has focused since his youth on income-generating activities learned from his late merchant father. He specializes in selling sundry shop items.

To ensure the satisfaction of an increasing number of customers and the expansion of his business, Mr. Zoumana approached the Soro Yiriwaso micro-finance institution three years ago. He is now on his sixth individual loan and all five previous loans were repaid without difficulty.

This sixth loan will be used to acquire a stock of various commodities (milk powder, sugar, tea, cigarettes, canned goods, cookies). He resupplies at Koutiala wholesalers and sells retail in his home-based shop, for cash only to a mixed clientele .

With the expansion of his business, Mr. Zoumana expects a monthly profit of 150,000 FCFA, that will be used to repay Soro loan interests, meet family needs and reinvest the remainder in the business.
