A loan of $750 helped to buy and sell summer clothes.

Olinda Nora's story

Olinda is a 28 year old single woman who lives in her father's house and also financially helps her family. Olinda lives and works in Ica, Perú. Ica is located in the Sechura desert nearly four hours south of Lima, the country's capital and is hailed by the Peruvians as "La Tierra del Sol" (The Land of the Sun). It is known in Perú for its frequent earthquakes (one of 8.0 in 2007 and one of 6.9 in 2011), its production of grapes, asparagus, and olives, and perhaps above all, as the origin of the traditional national beverage of Perú, the Pisco. In this hot and dry climate, we find the home and business of this client.

She is a persistant, determined, hard-working, and diligent woman who desires to progress more each day. It is for this reason that with the money she could save, when she was working as a laborer on a farm, she was able to rent a small store and purchse clothes to sell there. With time, she is acquiring a greater number of customers, but with the changing seasons (winter to summer), the people have started to look for cooler clothing due to the heat wave felt in Ica. It is thanks to this Kiva loan that Olinda will be able to purchase seasonal clothing and gain the satisfaction of her customers which will enable her to save and with time, have her own shop and be able to purchase her own home.
