A loan of $1,000 helped to buy perfumes, creams, and costume jewelry.

Gina Maritza's story

Emprendedora de Los Cerezos Communal Bank meets every two weeks in the residential area of Los Cerezos, in the city of Portoviejo. This is a poor and very densely populated urban area.

Here we spoke with Gina. She is 42 years old and the single mother of three children. Two are adults and the youngest, age 8, lives with her and attends school.

She is a very good mother who works hard to get her children ahead so they will never lack anything. She works in a house doing domestic chores, but at night and on her days off she works in business, selling Avon and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume, and accessories). She visits her customers on Saturdays and Sundays during the day, since those days she collects her money because she sells on credit. What she sells most is perfume. She has had this business for more than eight years and thanks to this she has been able to get ahead.

This loan is to buy perfumes, creams, and costume jewelry. She has been with the communal bank for six years and she likes it because of the help they give with the loans.

Her dreams are to have a store and to get ahead in life and in her business.
