A loan of $450 helped to purchase timber and a welding machine.

Stephen's story

Stephen is a married man who lives in Changamwe, Kenya, and owns a carpentry shop. The business was started seven years ago. He continues to supply finished woodworks to the customers who live in the area.

Stephen was introduced to Kiva partner Milango Financial Services by his friend and decided to join in order to access credit. He is applying for a loan of 40,000 Kenyan shillings (KES) to purchase timber and a welding machine. His main challenge is the lack of working capital to purchase advanced materials. Stephen has set his sight on owning a large store or factory in the future dealing in metal and wood works.

He will use the extra income obtained to invest for his family's future needs.
