A loan of $850 helped a member to buy farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Kujitafutia Group's story

Boaz is the facilitator of the Kujitafutia group. Boaz and his group joined One Acre Fund in 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Boaz takes care of two children at home. He joined One Acre Fund due to One Acre Fund's low prices and in order to ensure food security for his family. In the recent 2011 season, Boaz had an excellent maize yield harvesting 12 bags on half an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Boaz was only able to harvest three bags of maize on that land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Boaz and his group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs such as fertilizer and seed is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which also includes training, credit, and insurance.

With the income from maize sales, Boaz will educate his children and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Kujitafutia group will each plant maize plots between one half and one acre of land.
