A loan of $1,025 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Mulwanda C Group's story

Janepher is the facilitator of the Mulwanda C group. Janepher and her group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Janepher and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

Janepher takes care of seven children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough to secure food for her family and to have additional maize profits to send her children to school. In the recent 2011 season, Janepher had an excellent maize yield harvesting 16 bags on one acre of land.

Before joining One Acre Fund, Janepher was only able to harvest five bags of maize on one acre of land.

With income from her maize sales, Janepher will invest in livestock rearing and buy more land as savings for future use.

In 2012, the members of Mulwanda C group will each plant maize plots between ½ and 1 acre of land.
