Martha Beatriz's story

Martha Beatriz is 20 years old, married, and has two children. She lives with her husband and children (ages 3 and 10 months) in Guaranda in Bolívar Province.

Martha is a member is a member of the Communal Bank “Pangua” which is located in the community of Pangua Chaupiyacu and part of Guanujo parish in the canton of Guaranda. This community is 15 minutes away from the office of Cooperativa San Jose. The members of the Pangua Communal Bank work mostly in agriculture and livestock breeding, but they also engage in other business activities, such as retail and construction, in order to earn most of their income.

Martha is a farmer who grows corn. She also raises cattle at her grandmother’s house. Martha buys her supplies and sells her agricultural products in Guaranda. She is requesting a loan in order to buy seeds, compost, fertilizers, and urea. The help from this loan will improve her family’s financial situation. She dreams of moving to a city where there is more work. The challenges she faces include the lack of water, which causes her crops to become dry.

In her free time, Martha likes to relax and spend time with her children.
