A loan of $1,625 helped a member to stock up on more tennis shoes and shoes for the Christmas season.

Palmas Group's story

“Palmas” is a very sociable communal bank in its first cycle; it has 8 women members who are very good and hardworking and who are concerned about their families’ wellbeing. Their meetings take place in Monterrey, Nuevo León.

Marcela is a responsible, intelligent group member. She’s 32 years old and lives happily with her husband and two children (twins, one boy and one girl) who attend school and one of them is on a baseball team.

Marcela sells shoes, catalogue products, jewelry and natural products. She likes to sell a little bit of everything and started the easiest way selling shoes which helped her trust her neighbors more and figure out if they were responsible.

She will use the loan she got to stock up on tennis shoes and shoes for the Christmas season because this is what people need the most around this time and this way she can help her husband with household expenses and their children’s schooling costs.

One of Marcela’s most wished-for dreams is to continue growing in business to keep her good customers so that she can continue to sell them natural products to lose weight in the long run but being associated directly with the firm.

The group shared an anecdote about one of the members. They mention that when she started to form her groups her husband would scold her and prohibit her from taking part in this but as time went by she was able to show her husband that she could take care of her payments and of her business all by herself and didn’t need to depend on him. Now the husband lets her have the meetings in their house with no complaints.

In this group: Antonia, Lucero, Marcela, Maria Elena, Maria Martha Alicia, Sara, Teresita De Jesus
