A loan of $2,050 helped a member to buy a television set for his household.

Hassan's Group's story

Pictured above are a group of teachers from one of the institutions in Waterloo, a town near Freetown where “Shine on Sierra Leone” partnered with SMT to start a branch. School staff and other salaried workers do come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org base in Makeni to seek loans. With the help of these loans, they are able to solve problems that their salaries alone cannot solve. Then at the end of each month their bursar or finance officer repays SMT/Kiva lenders on their behalf.

Hassan is the leader of this group of teachers. The twenty-three year old is a native of Mile Ninety village. He is married and has three children. Hassan has requested this loan in order to buy a television set for his household.
