A loan of $1,300 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Fayaremu A Group's story

Greetings from Fayaremu A Group in Western Kenya! Roseline is the facilitator of the group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Roseline takes care of three children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Roseline had a very good maize yield, harvesting 15 bags on 1 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Roseline was only able to harvest 3 bags of maize on 1 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Roseline and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Roseline will educate her children, ensure food security and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Fayaremu A group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

In this group: Agnes, Bridgid, Geoffrey, Gladys, Joseph, Mary, Matilda, Robai, Rose, Rose, Roseline, William
