A loan of $200 helped to buy sacks of oranges.

Elsa's story

Elsa is 40 years old. For the past eight years she has lived with Barnabé. She has three children with him, ages 18, 17 and 5. This family lives in their own house in the Pueblo Pardo Community in the Chanchamayo District. Elsa is a hardworking woman that works every day in the countryside. On their own land they grow star fruit, oranges, tangerines, etc. This arduous activity helps support this couple and their children. The star fruit is a profitable crop. The advantage is that it ripens all year long, in all months, and the price for the fruit is almost always stable. The fruit costs seven or eight soles. They also buy and sell oranges. Two times a week they bring their merchandise to market in the city of Villa Rica. They sell their products retail by foot or they distribute their merchandise to their established clientele. They have been doing this business for the past fourteen years. Elsa is a visionary. In the future she would like to build a house in La Merced City, where they own land. By doing this they will provide their family with a better quality of life. This is the seventh loan she has requested from MFP. She gives her word that she will be punctual with her payments. In the same way, she has been a stable and consistent member of the community bank. She knows that as a member of a team, she can achieve better results. In order to earn money, Elsa will buy oranges wholesale and sell them in Villa Rica.
