Gloria Guadalupe's story

Gloria, 53, is a hardworking woman living with her 15-year-old daughter who attends secondary school. They both live in the city of Santo Domingo.

Santo Domingo de los Colorados is one of the country’s youngest cities. It is located at the junction point between the Mountains and the Coast. It is a privileged site not only because of its ethnic wealth but also because of its unusual scenery that can be found starting at this beautiful city’s very entrance. Santo Domingo de los Colorados is currently part of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas Province. The main festival of Santo Domingo is celebrated with an intense influx of visitors, commercial and cultural interchange. A great street fair takes place at the installations of the Cattlemen’s Association where the best examples of the various breeds and crossbreeds raised in the region’s haciendas are displayed and compete.

Gloria learned how to raise pigs to sell from her family. She’s been doing this now for several years and has been able to support her daughter by herself. She wants to invest in the purchase of six piglets to sell in a few months taking advantage of the increased sales that take place thanks to the Christmas season.

She’s concerned about her health because her dream is being able to educate her daughter and give her everything necessary. Like all good mothers, she strives to give her daughter a better quality of life.
