Erika Jasmin's story

Erika is a young 19 year old woman. She is a single mother of a three year old girl. They live in the "El Platanito" sector in Santo Domingo de los Colorados.

Santo Domingo de los Colorados is one of the youngest cities in the country. It is on the border between the sierra and coastal regions. It is a privileged place, not just for its ethnic heritage, but for the scenery to be found at the very entrance of this beautiful city. At present, Santo Domingo de los Colorados belongs to the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, which was recently formed. The main festival in Santo Domingo is celebrated with intense tourist movement and commercial and cultural exchange. There is a large fair in the facilities of the Rancher's Association. There the best examples of the different races and breeds of the region's cattle are shown.

Erika has a small sewing workshop where she makes purses and fabric bags for women. She learned this from her mother some years ago and today both of them are members. Her dream is to grow her business and for that she went to the Fundación Alternativa, looking for a loan to be able to buy fabric and a sewing machine. In this way she and her mother will be able to produce more purses and get a little closer to their dream of having a great factory.
