Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $200 helped to buy foodstuffs, a display case, stuffed toys, toys and beauty products.

Asuncion Alipia's story

Asunción belongs to the “Brisas del Lago” (Lake Breezes) communal bank located in Puno Province and Department. She’s 37 years old, single and has two children. She has some higher education.

She is a grocer and also sells beauty products and rents out rooms in her house. She’s worked with the Manuela Ramos Movement for five years. Her first loan was for 300 new soles that she invested in her business.

She will now request a new loan for 500 new soles that she’ll use to buy a display case, foodstuffs, stuffed toys, toys and beauty products. Her son helps her in the business. She wants to have more capital to set up a micro business. What she most enjoys about her communal bank is the punctuality, the responsibility and the support from the loan.
