Rokel Social Club Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone is very pleased to present the members of the 'Rokel Social Club' group. These are small scale entrepreneurs who have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to seek a loan of SLL 800,000 each in order to invest in their respective businesses.

Rugiatu is the leader of this group. Rugiatu is thirty-six years old and married. She has three children. Two are in primary school while the youngest isn't old enough to go to school yet. Rugiatu sells palm-oil (the most popular cooking oil), and uncooked rice. With the help of this loan, Rugiatu will invest in her business by buying gallons of palm-oil and bags of rice to sell.
